I was very disappointed by the ‘Transformers’ sequel.  I was expecting more emphasis on the robots (which we got), better action (which we definitely got), but much less of the generally unlikeable humans (which we definitely did not get).  You could cut out half the movie and double its entertainment value, it’s that bad.

So why is this film — hated and reviled by a surprising number of people I have found online, as well as popular critics — on the fast track to becoming one of the highest grossing movies of all time?  It’s an inferior sequel, but it may make twice as much as its much more entertaining predecessor.

So what attracts people to it?

I really have no idea.  Maybe the sheer spectacle has something to do with it, or that the good half–which really is good–outweighs the shlockiness?  I mean, you do have some really sweet stuff with the Transformers themselves, including some old standby traditions being reused (ever seen the 1980’s Transformers movie? Remember what happened to Optimus? It happens again!), and some of the coolest action ever.

Maybe I’ll give it another chance sometime.  It’ll be worth it to see the good stuff again, at least…
